    Karhandla guides, driver on strike over routes’ closure

    Nagpur: The guides and safari vehicle drivers from Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary on Friday called for strike to protest against routes’ closure. Satighat Lake and Ranbodhi Lake were open for safari for last seven years. However, the same region was prohibited for safari by Forest Officials from October 1, 2020. The move had drawn tremendous opposition from the guides and driver, who claimed that it will effect their livelihood.

    Following which the guides and safari vehicle drivers from Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary are in tiff with Forest officials over the closure of routes besides reduction in numbers of vehicles in region. To express their anguish, the guides and drivers called in for strike on January 1.

    It is pertinent to mention that speaking with Nagpur Today, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rahul Gavai had clarified that there were some issues, but they have resolved following the dialogue. However, guides and safari vehicle drivers have denied their claims.
