Bookies from Chhattisgarh arrested from BTP Hotel, Lakadganj for accepting bets on IPL match in Nagpur

Nagpur: It seems Nagpur is turning out to be a new favourite spot for bookies to run their malice business! After bookies from Yavatmal were arrested by Nagpur Crime Branch on April 26, now Lakadganj Police have arrested three bookies from Chhattisgarh for accepting bets on IPL match at BTP Hotel in Satnami Nagar here on April 28, police said on Wednesday.

According to police sources, cops received secret input regarding a group of men running a betting racket from Lakadganj based BTP Hotel.

Acting swiftly on the inputs, Lakadganj Senior Police Inspector Vaibhav Jadhav, PI (Crime) Sainath Ramol, PSI Sandip Shinde, Police Constable Sukhdev Giradkar, NPC Anand Marskolhe, Police Amaldar Shakil Sheikh, Mayur Bansod and Swapnil Tandulkar raided the BTP Hotel in Satnami Nagar and found three accused accepting bets on IPL match.

The accused were identified as Ajay Vijay Soni (30), Vinay Nilkamal Verma(27), Tarang Pawan Agrawal (27), and Harish Kesharwai (45), absconding, all residents of Korba, Chhattisgarh. Cops have also booked BTP Hotel owner Umesh Shende in this connection.

Besides arresting three accused, cops have also seized goods worth Rs 14.45 lakh from the accused.

The action was planned under the supervision of CP Ravinder Singhal, Jt CP Aswati Dorje and DCP Gorakh Bhamre.
