Nagpur: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have launched a parallel investigation into the molestation case in which a woman was chased up to her from a hotel in Nagpur after finding that one of the accused persons was a migrant from Pakistan. The officials of both agencies are investigating the case from the terror angle as the husband of the victim woman is working for a central agency, local media reports said.

The three residents of Amravati were arrested by the police for following a woman from Hotel Ashok up to her residence. The police investigations uncovered that one of the accused persons was a Pakistani migrant who was at the forefront of stalking and harassing the woman.

The Pakistan immigrant accused has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Talreja (43), a resident of Navjeevan Colony, Amravati. The other accused include Manoj Kumar Chhabra (53), a resident of Shankar Nagar Road, Amravati, and Suraj Narayan Kurhadkar (25), a resident of Ganpati Nagar, Amravati.

Talreja is engaged in the construction business and Kurhadkar was his driver. While Talreja and Chhabra are cooling heels behind the bars, Kurhadkar was released on bail by the court. After receiving information that Talreja is a Pakistani migrant, the anti-terror agencies quickly launched a probe into the case.

Talreja, who migrated from the Sindh region of Pakistan about 25 years ago, had been living in Arvi town of Wardha district, before settling in Amravati. After shifting to Amravati, he engaged in the construction business. The anti-terror agencies are suspecting Talreja’s involvement in other serious crimes and are scrutinising his connections, including examining his call records for any links to Pakistan.

Thewife of a senior official serving with a Central Agency had gone to Hotel Ashoka on April 22 for dinner. She was pursued by the accused up to her residence late at night. The accused persons also got into an XUV 700 SUV (without registration number) and started chasing her. One of them came out of the SUV and went up to the lobby of the woman’s house. After examining footage from around 400 CCTV cameras, the police managed to arrest the culprits.
