Nagpur: In a significant development, the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Nagpur has pronounced a five-year rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 1.10 lakh for Bipin Jambholkar, formerly serving as a Scientific Cadre Officer-Grade-A at the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The verdict was delivered in connection with a bribery case that surfaced back in 2015.

The case was initially registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 9, 2015, against Jambholkar, who held the position of Scientist-C (Lot Cell) and served as the Nodal Officer for Enforcement and Legal Activities at the BIS office in Nagpur.

Allegations were raised against him for purportedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000. The bribe was allegedly intended to influence his actions regarding an appeal against the acquittal of a complainant, as per an order dated December 20, 2014, issued by the Judicial Magistrate, 1st Class, in Wardha.

Following an extensive investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on February 26, 2016, against Jambholkar. Subsequently, the case underwent a rigorous trial process, during which 15 witnesses were examined and 91 documents were presented by the prosecution. The evidence presented during the trial led to the conviction of Jambholkar, underscoring the strength of the case built against him.
