Youth shot for fighting against eve-teasing in jurisdiction of Imambada police station

Nagpur News : A 23-year-old youth was shot death when he opposed eve-teasing of his girlfriend by two youths on bike in Untkhana area under the jurisdiction of Imambada police station on Tuesday evening.

Roshan Samari, a B.SC student, was shot a round on his shoulder in full public view.

Police said the incident took place over an altercation between him and the youths after they passed lewd comments on his girlfriend.

Around 7.15 pm, Roshan had gone to meet his girlfriend-Roshni (name changed) at Unthkhana. Police informed Roshni was accompanied with her friend when she came to meet Roshan. Few minutes later, she left for home with her friend. On their way to home, the girls stopped at a shop at Chitnis Park to recharge their cell phone where the two youths on bike interrupted them.

“They passed comments and asked Roshni to give her cell phone number. However, she ignored and continued driving with her friend,” said police. Still, the youths followed her and passed abusive comments on her. They even tried to stop her. Fed up of the youth’s behaviour, Roshani alerted Roshan.

Within minutes Roshan reached the spot with his friend and caught the youths while they were abusing Roshni. Trying to stop them, the youths had an argument with Roshan and picked up a brawl with him. However, people’s interference resolved their matter and the youths left.

Few minutes later while Roshan was talking with his friend, the youths came back and fired a round on his shoulder and sped away. Police has got the registration number of the youth’s bike and are still searching for them. The incident on the busy stretch has led to chaos and tension among nearby residents.

Imambada police, crime branch police and senior officials investigated the spot.
