Panic gripped a locality near ST Bus Stand, Ganeshpeth when a 24-year old youth was done to death in cold blood by a group of 7 criminals on Monday (June 9). The repercussions of the grisly murder echoed when two policemen were suspended on the charges of dereliction of duty. However, some of the accused killers, fleeing after committing the crime, have been captured by CCTV camera installed nearby the spot.

According to police, the murder took place in the afternoon of June 9 in a crowded locality near ST Bus Stand, Ganeshpeth. The scene at murder spot has undoubtedly sent chill down the spines of the watchers. That the criminals numbering about seven had hatched the conspiracy to murder in ghastliest manner could be gauged from the fact that they had come armed with sharp-edged weapons to commit the crime. And they did it with most diabolical mind. The murder was most bloody as the victim’s head and face were crushed with a big stone and a finger of his hand was cut and thrown near his body. The spot was splattered with blood and only blood.
The victim is identified as Suraj Kesharilal Jaiswal (24), a resident of Hingna, Nagpur. Suraj was called to Bus Stand for settlement of a money transaction out of a match betting by one of the perpetrators. Suraj was in DJ business. However, police records showed that he was a history-sheeter with many crimes registered at various police stations of the city. It is learnt that the murder took place to settle old scores.
When Suraj reached near ST Bus Stand a heated exchange of words erupted between him and the group of criminals. The argument took the violent shape when Suraj was attacked by the goons with the sharp-edged weapons and a big stone. The perpetrators repeatedly stabbed Suraj and smashed his head and face with the stone leaving him in a pool of blood. The attack was so ferocious Suraj died on the spot.
Witnesses said that there were so many people around when the crime took place but nobody bothered to inform the police booth which is nearby. Such was the terror created by attackers that nobody rushed to the rescue of the victim. Many shopkeepers immediately downed their shutters out of panic.
Ganeshpeth police reached the spot immediately after they were informed and after preliminary investigation, sent body of Suraj to GMCH for post-mortem.
The Ganeshpeth PSI Pachkawade, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Akshay Haridas Dupare (20) has booked the seven accused Shubham Pethe alias Pethya, Anil alias Anya Waghmare, Chintu Waghmare, Mir Mishra, Salman, Shahrukh, and Tinku alias Tingya, all residents of Savitribai Fuley Nagar Slums under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 302 of the IPC and Sub-Section 135 of Bombay Police Act and is investigating the matter further.
Two cops suspended:
The ghastly murder took its toll when two policemen posted at Ganeshpeth Bus Stand Police Post were suspended for dereliction of duty. The two policemen, Constables Aadil Sheikh and Dharmendra Nitnavare, were found totally unaware of the murder even though the spot is very near the Police Post. Their negligent attitude resulted in no immediate information to higher officials and subsequently no concrete action on the part of police. The Zone-3 DCP Sanjay Darade suspended both the constables when a report in this regard was submitted to him.
