Nagpur: A young woman lost her life when she tried to intervene in a brawl that had erupted between her brother and a youth over ‘Mahaprasad’ of Lord Ganesh in Sadar area on Wednesday night. Surprisingly, cops have registered a case of accidental death and have not booked the offender.

The complainant Lokesh Kishore Masram (30), resident of Chhaoni, told police that he is a member Balgopal Ganesh Utsav Mandal, Rajacha Wada. On Wednesday (September 14), the Mandal had organized ‘Mahaprasad.’ The trouble started when Lokesh asked a youth named Darshan as to where to keep the ‘Mahaprasad’ for distribution. A brawl erupted between Lokesh and Darshan over the placement of ‘Mahaprasad.’ As the wordy duel threatened to escalate, Lokesh’s younger sister Manisha Kishore Masram (27) tried to calm the situation but was pushed aside forcibly by Darshan. As a result, Manisha fell on the road with forceful impact and received grievous injuries. The unconscious Manisha was rushed to Mayo Hospital but it was too late as doctors there declared her dead.

Sadar PSI Varpade, surprisingly, has registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.
