Young woman commits suicide; husband, in-laws booked

Nagpur News: Frustrated over mental and physical harassment from husband and in-laws, a 24-year-old young woman hanged herself and committed suicide at her residence on Tuesday. Identified as Sarafunisha Shahid Iqbal, the deceased was a resident of Flat No. 206, Sangharsh Nagar.

Sarafunisha gor married to Shahid Iqbal four months ago. But soon after her marriage, her husband and in-laws started forcing her to bring money from her parents to buy a new plot. After continuous refusals, her in-laws and husband started torturing her both mentally and physically. She was beaten black and blue every now and then. Frustrated with this torture, she finally decided to end her miseries. On Tuesday, she hanged herself at her residence and ended her life.

Her relative Amita Begum Abdul Hafeez (56), a resident of Prabhag No. 22, Katol Road, Gittikhadan lodged a complaint at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station against Shahid Iqbal, his mother Suraiyya and brother Sameer for abetting Sarafunisha to commit suicide. Cops booked all the three and PSI Mohankar registered an offence under Sections 498 (a), 306 and 34 of the IPC, informed PI Deolkar. Further investigations are underway.
