Nagpur: Tension ran high in Kalamna area when a young boy set himself ablaze right in front of his house on Tuesday afternoon. The gory daylight incident created ripples in the area. The reason behind the boy immolating himself could not be ascertained immediately.
The deceased has been identified as Alankar Girdhari Khapekar (22), resident of Plot No. 53, near Hanuman Mandir, Ambenagar, Bhandewadi. Around 4 pm on Tuesday, Alankar suddenly came out of house holding a can of kerosene, poured the stuff on his person and set himself ablaze. The burning Alankar and his shrill cries left the nearby residents stunned. However, even before the flames could be doused, Alankar received critical burn injuries and died on the spot. The reason behind Alankar embracing the death in such a horrific manner could not be ascertained immediately. Kalamna cops, who were informed about the incident by deceased Alankar’s younger sister Priti Girdhari Khapekar (18), rushed to the scene and after completing preliminary probe, sent the body to government hospital for post-mortem.
Kalamna PSI Analdas has registered a case of accidental death and launched an in-depth investigation into the matter.
