Nagpur: A dispute arising out of an old business transaction has allegedly been used as a pretext to cheat a woman of her Toyota Fortuner worth around Rs 5 lakh. Shanti Nagar police have registered a case against a 60-year-old man, Riyaz Khan, and his approximately 40-year-old nephew for allegedly taking possession of the vehicle after paying only Rs 50,000 and subsequently handing it over to another person without the owner’s consent.

According to the complaint, the woman’s husband and Riyaz Khan had entered into a business deal involving scrap material around four years ago. The transaction reportedly fell through following a dispute, after which Khan allegedly began demanding reimbursement from the woman’s husband for expenses incurred in connection with the failed deal.

During the course of the dispute, the woman reportedly handed over her Toyota Fortuner, registered in her name, to Riyaz Khan in the belief that the matter would be settled. However, the accused allegedly paid her only Rs 50,000 against the vehicle’s approximate value of Rs 5 lakh.

The complaint further alleges that, without obtaining the woman’s permission or paying the outstanding amount, Riyaz Khan and his nephew handed over the Fortuner to one Parmanand Moryani, a resident of Panchpaoli.

The matter has taken a more serious turn with allegations that the same vehicle was subsequently used in connection with a criminal case registered at Khaparkheda police station. The woman also allegedly suffered financial losses after the vehicle’s instalments remained unpaid and the outstanding amount was not cleared.

Following her complaint, Shanti Nagar police registered a case against Riyaz Khan and his nephew under relevant provisions relating to cheating. Police are investigating the alleged transfer of the vehicle, the financial dealings between the parties and its reported use in the Khaparkheda case.
