According to police, the complainant, identified as Rukhsar Sheikh, a resident of Maskasath Itwari area, had married Imran Rashid Sheikh on May 31, 2024. Investigators said it was reportedly Imran’s second marriage.

Rukhsar alleged that the initial phase of the marriage was normal, but later her mother-in-law, identified as Saeeda Begum, allegedly began instigating her son against her, leading to continuous mental harassment and disputes within the family.

On August 11, 2025, Rukhsar gave birth to a daughter named Ayra. According to the complaint, the behaviour of her husband and mother-in-law allegedly changed completely after the birth of the girl child.

The victim alleged that she was repeatedly taunted, mentally harassed, and subjected to physical assault by her husband.

According to Rukhsar, on April 24, her husband allegedly assaulted her brutally and threatened to kill her. During the altercation, he allegedly pronounced “triple talaq” by uttering the word talaq three times and threw her out of the house.

Following the incident, local residents informed police, after which officers reached the spot and shifted the injured woman to a hospital for medical treatment.

The complainant further alleged that she was assaulted again. Troubled by the repeated abuse and harassment, she finally approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against husband Imran Rashid Sheikh and mother-in-law Saeeda Begum under sections related to domestic violence, assault, criminal intimidation, and provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

During preliminary investigation, police also learnt that allegations of harassment had reportedly been levelled against Imran by his first wife as well.

Police said further investigation is underway, while the victim’s family has demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict legal action in the case.
