Nagpur: With the unabated cold wave wreaking havoc, the employees of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) searched the homeless people and took them to a shelter home run by the civic body. The homeless people were also provided with blankets with the help of voluntary organisations.

While carrying out a survey on December 26 night, the NMC employees found 34 homeless people sleeping on footpaths near Railway Station and Kasturchand Park. The unfortunate people included many poor youths who had come to city for recruitment in Army. All these 34 homeless peole were brought to the NMC-run shelter home situated in Sitabludi. They were served with clean water, toilets, beds, and other basic amenities. The homeless people were also provided food, breakfast and tea/coffee on ‘no loss no profit’ basis.

On the appeal of NMC, the voluntary organisations such as MyFM, Cloth Box Foundation, and some generous social activists distributed blankets to the homeless people. The NMC-run shelter home is now hosting 70 beneficiaries including 36 old and 34 new ones.
