Nagpur: The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature commenced on Monday, December 8 at Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur, with the proceedings of the Legislative Council beginning at 12 noon. The session opened with the recitation of Vande Mataram and the State Song, marking a formal and ceremonial start.
Council Chairperson Ram Shinde, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and members of both the ruling and opposition parties were present in the House.
To commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram, the entire song was sung in the Council following the opening formalities.
Ordinances and supplementary demands presented
After the ceremonial proceedings, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, the Revenue Minister, the Marketing Minister, the Rural Development Minister, and the Labour Minister laid various ordinances on the table of the House.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar presented the Supplementary Demands for the year 2025-26.
Two government bills were moved and approved in the Council:
1. Maharashtra Gram Panchayat and Maharashtra Zilla Parishad & Panchayat Samiti (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – Bill No. 13 of 2025
2. Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Maharashtra Municipal Corporations and Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats & Industrial Township (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – Bill No. 14 of 2025
Both proposals were passed with approval of the House.
Condolence resolutions
Chairperson Ram Shinde then moved condolence resolutions mourning the demise of:
• Nirmala Shankarrao Thokal, former member
• Prakash Keshavrao Dewle, former member
Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, and all members observed two minutes of silence to pay tribute.
The Winter Session began on a solemn yet purposeful note, with key legislative business tabled on Day 1 and tributes offered to departed leaders.
