Nagpur: Every city has some specialities and its development is achieved through them. New municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar expressed hope to make Nagpur city as model of development on Tuesday. He was speaking at the press conference after assuming charge of new commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

He said, “Nagpur city is big. The post of municipal commissioner is a big challenge as this city is of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari and I am ready to take this challenge. People’s participation is equally important in overall development of the city. Every citizen and along with officials should be feeling that I have to make this city a big one.”
Hardikar further said that his top priority will be making available facilities to the people and efforts will be made to bring good governance. “For this, sensitivity and commitment are equally important,” he said.

Hardikar further said, “Local government bodies should be self sufficient and they should fulfill needs of the administration and the people through their revenue. Help from the Central and State governments should be taken for new development-oriented investment. Role of the Nagpur Improvement Trust and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is important in city’s development. Review of pending projects in the city will be taken and steps taken to complete the same. Further stress will also be given to generate new financial sources to increase Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s revenue. Process to pay taxes will be simplified and people-oriented.”

Despite adverse condition, I tried my best to make Nagpur city a best city with association of all and considering financial position of Nagpur Municipal Corporation in last two-and-half years, said outgoing municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane here on Tuesday. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation had organised a programme in Chhatrapati Shivaji Hall in its central office to accordfarewell to Wardhane and welcome new commissioner Shravan Hardikar. Deputy mayor Munna Pokulwar presided over the programme.

Wardhane said, “I tried to get development works in the city going. Harsh decision were taken on some occasions to avoid maligning NMC’s image. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari where they were born want to see this city achieve glory. All should take efforts in this direction.”

NMC standing committee chairperson Balya Borkar, former chairperson Dayashankar Tiwari, former additional commissioner Hemantkumar Pawar, chairman of health committee Ramesh Singare, zone chairman Gopal Bohare, group leader of Bahujan Samaj Party Kishor Gajbhiye, corporator Arun Daware, Tanveer Ahmad, deputy commissioner Pramod Bhusari, Achyut Dange, superintendant engineer Prakash Urade, Shashikant Hastak, deputy director of health Dr Milind Ganvir, audit and finance officer Madan Gadge, NMC secretary Harish Dube and others were present.
