Will focus to improve NMC financial condition says Abhijeet Bangar-Municipal commissioner,Nagpur

Nagpur: Abhijeet Bangar, the new municipal commissioner, said his top priority for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is to focus on water supply as with scanty rainfall water scarcity is looming large.

Speaking to media-men, Bangar who took over the charge of municipal commissioner recently, said the current financial position of the NMC is very critical. So his focus will be to improve its financial condition by tapping new resources of revenue along with improving in the income side.

He said though the revise grant of Rs 90 crore Goods and Services Tax will take care of NMC’s committed expenditure. However, the NMC should focus on generating new source of income so that its capital liability is taken care of, he said.

Along with other priorities, he will ensure that the NMC should give more focus on city’s sanitation and cleanliness though Bangar admitted that the complaint redressal system of Swachhata App is very poor.

Bangar also admitted that there are a lot of vacancies of manpower in the NMC. “However, the sitaution is similar in other municipal corporations across the state,” he said. According to him, the focus of the administration will be to get maximum output of NMC’s existing staff.

Bangar said that he will take this opportunity to work in chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union transport minister Nitin Gadkari’s hometowns as a challenge and try to fulfill wishes of all citizens.
