Nagpur: A 52-year-old man was allegedly duped of ₹44,000 after an unidentified person swapped his ATM card at an SBI ATM on the Dighori-Umred Road in Nagpur’s Wathoda area. The accused allegedly posed as a helpful stranger and cleverly replaced the victim’s card before fleeing.
According to the Wathoda police, the complainant, 52-year-old Yuvraj Natthuji Andel, had visited the SBI ATM to withdraw money. At the time, an unidentified man aged around 40 to 45 years was present inside the ATM.
After Andel completed his transaction, the accused allegedly asked him whether the ATM slip had been dispensed. Taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly used sleight of hand to swap Andel’s ATM card with another card and left the spot.
The accused later allegedly used the swapped card to withdraw a total of ₹44,000 from the victim’s bank account in five separate transactions.
Andel realised that money had been withdrawn from his account and subsequently approached the Wathoda police. Based on his complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified accused.
Police are now examining CCTV footage from the ATM and gathering technical information to identify and trace the accused.
