Nagpur: A case involving an alleged demand for ₹2 lakh from a doctor at a private hospital in Kamthi has come to light. The accused allegedly threatened to circulate a video on social media to defame the doctor and the hospital. The Naveen Kamthi police arrested the accused following the doctor’s complaint. However, a court later granted him bail and directed the police to conduct a detailed investigation.

According to police, a case was registered against Ghulam Nazar Sheikh Mohammad based on a complaint filed by Dr. Tanzim Azmi, who runs City Hospital on Kalamna Road in Kamthi.

As per the complaint, the accused had visited the hospital with his wife on June 18 after experiencing stomach pain and difficulty passing stool. Although he did not have an Ayushman card, the doctors began his treatment. After undergoing examinations, a CT scan and necessary treatment, his condition improved and he was discharged.

Later, the accused allegedly circulated a video on social media claiming that the hospital had generated a bill of ₹40,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana despite him not being admitted for 17 days. After the issue came to light, the doctor and the accused spoke to each other, and a video was also made clarifying the misunderstanding.

However, the complaint alleges that the accused later threatened to circulate another video making allegations against the hospital and doctor.

According to Dr. Azmi, he contacted the accused after receiving the alleged defamatory video on social media on the night of August 21. The accused subsequently arrived at the hospital with some people. After the doctor explained the treatment provided, the accused allegedly admitted that his allegations were incorrect and recorded another video.

The doctor further alleged that the accused returned to the hospital on August 22 and demanded ₹2 lakh, threatening to make the alleged defamatory video viral on social media.

Based on the complaint, Naveen Kamthi police arrested the accused. Meanwhile, a social media reel allegedly posted by the accused’s family, claiming that he had been forcibly taken away and kidnapped, has also surfaced, adding another dimension to the case.

The court has granted bail to the accused and directed the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
