Nagpur: In a major academic milestone, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially conferred autonomous status on Govindrao Wanjari College of Engineering & Technology (GWCET), marking a transformative new chapter in the institution’s journey toward academic excellence.

The prestigious recognition underscores the college’s consistent commitment to quality education, innovation, and student-centric learning. The autonomous status empowers GWCET to design its own curriculum, adopt modern teaching-learning methodologies, and implement independent evaluation systems — while continuing its affiliation with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU).

According to UGC, autonomy allows institutions “to frame the syllabus and customise it as per industry needs,” thereby granting them academic freedom to promote excellence in performance.

Key benefits of autonomy include:

The flexibility to revise and update syllabi in line with evolving industry and technological trends.

The freedom to introduce choice-based credits, electives, and interdisciplinary courses, enhancing both employability and learning experience.

Greater capacity to foster innovation, research, and industry linkages for holistic student development.

This achievement is credited to the visionary leadership of the college’s management and governing body, including Dr. Suhasini Wanjari (President, Amar Sewa Mandal), Adv. Abhijitji Wanjarri (Secretary, Amar Sewa Mandal & MLC, Nagpur Constituency), Dr. Smeeta Wanjari (Treasurer, Amar Sewa Mandal & Senate Member, RTMNU), and Dr. Salim A. Chavan (Principal, GWCET). They expressed gratitude to all stakeholders—faculty, students, alumni, and parents—for their continued support and contribution.

With this new status, GWCET is poised to redefine its engineering programs, strengthen academic excellence, and create a stronger impact on the community it serves. This marks a proud moment for the institution and all those associated with it.
