VNIT Hostel Incident: Two top bosses of construction co booked for labourer’s tragic death

Nagpur: Ambazari police have booked General Manager and Project Manager of a reputed construction company on the charges of causing death of a labourer negligently. The accused have been identified as Vijay Jacob (General Manager) and Ashok Patel (Project Manager) of DEEYEE Construction Company.

The company had undertaken dismantling of a building at Block No. 2, VNIT Campus Hostel. The labourer named Mukesh Shahu (27), resident of District Dhamtari (Chhattisgarh), was deployed at the site.

However, on September 30 at 5 pm, while Mukesh was dismantling the old building, the wall collapsed crushing him under the debris. Mukesh was seriously injured and was taken to his village in Chhattisgarh in a Bolero car (CG-12/AM 2561) by the General Manager Vijay Jacob and Project Manger Ashok Patel of DEEYEE Construction Company. However, Mukesh died when they reached the village.

Subsequently, on the basis of a complaint filed by Viraj Virendralal Shrivastav (47), resident of VNIT Campus Hostel, Ambazari Lady PSI Waghmare registered an offence under Sections 304(A), 34 of IPC against the two high officials and probing the matter further.
