Nagpur: A public notice published by Nirmal Ujjwal Credit Co-operative Society in a local newspaper, appealing to members and depositors to remain patient and not be misled by rumours, prompted the Nagpur Today team to visit one of the society’s branches to verify the ground situation.
During the visit, the Nagpur Today team found several depositors gathered outside the branch, many of whom claimed they were waiting for the release of their matured Fixed Deposit (FD) amounts. Several customers spoke on camera, alleging that despite repeated visits, they had not received payments after their deposits matured.
One depositor told Nagpur Today that his Fixed Deposit of approximately ₹5.5 lakh matured on June 24. Including interest, the maturity amount was expected to be around ₹6 lakh. However, he alleged that despite visiting the branch multiple times since the maturity date, he was repeatedly informed that funds were not available and was asked to return later.

Other depositors echoed similar concerns, alleging delays in the repayment of matured FDs. They also questioned the society’s reported claims of receiving a clean chit from the Special Investigation Team (SIT), saying that if the institution’s financial position was normal, depositors should not be facing difficulties in receiving their matured deposits.
Some customers also appealed to fellow account holders to safely preserve their passbooks, FD receipts and other banking documents as supporting records until the matter is resolved.
The newspaper notice issued by the society urged members to maintain confidence in the institution, exercise patience, and ignore what it described as misleading reports. However, the experiences shared by depositors during Nagpur Today’s on-ground visit present a contrasting picture, with several customers alleging prolonged delays in receiving their money.
Nagpur Today has reached out to the management of Nirmal Ujjwal Credit Co-operative Society for its response. However, no official statement had been received at the time of publishing this report. The management’s version will be published as soon as it is made available.
