Nagpur: A squad of Election Commission (EC) on Monday seized Rs 25 lakh cash at Sironji checkpost in Saoner tehsil. The money was being brought into Maharashtra from Madhya Pradesh (MP).
The EC squad posted at Sironji post, spotted two youths riding on a motorcycle (MP/28/H/0165) on Saunsar Road around 8.30 pm on Monday. The squad signalled the bike to stop but when the youth tried to flee by speeding away on their bike, the squad chased them and nabbed them on the road going to Sironji village.
Upon checking the bag that was being carried by the two youths, the squad found five thousands notes of Rs 500 denomination amounting to Rs 25 lakh. The squad confiscated the money and informed the Tehsil office and Khapa police.
The squad posted at Sironji check post handed over the money and the accused to the Tehsil office.
The accused have been identified as Rahul Ramrao Dhawle (26) and Ganpat Ramaji Kodape (27).
Probe has been launched to ascertain the source of this fund and where it was being taken.
