Nagpur: Heavy unseasonal downpour on Friday evening took Nagpurians by surprise. The rain also crippled normal life as traffic came to standstill across the city. Roads were flooded with knee deep gushing water. Commuters found it difficult to wade through flooded streets. Waterlogging led to traffic snarls across the city.

According to Weatherman, monsoon rains started withdrawing from the region from last week of September marking the most delayed retreat of the seasonal rainfall. The monsoon generally begins in June and starts to retreat by September 1, but rains have continued beyond that date this year and triggered floods in several parts of the country. Monsoon rains were well above average in 2019.

The weather in city was cloudy since morning on Friday but skies later turned blue. However, by evening around 4.30 pm, heavy rain coupled with thunderous lightning took the Nagpurians by surprise. Friday being working day, hundreds of school children and office-goers were stuck in their respective premises.
