Nagpur: A tragic incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at Salaimendha Lake in Hingna tehsil of Nagpur district, where two youths drowned while swimming in deep water.
According to information received, five friends had gone to the lake to enjoy their holiday before heading for night duty. During the outing, two of them entered the water for swimming but accidentally moved into a deeper section of the lake and started drowning.
The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Aditya Ramchandra Chahande, a resident of Rajiv Nagar MIDC, and 19-year-old Abhishek Amirchand Sirsam, originally from Sindwada and currently residing in Nildoh, Hingna. Both were employed at Ramson Company.
Sources said the group had gone to the lake on Wednesday afternoon as all of them were scheduled for night shift duty later in the day. Around 3:30 pm, Aditya and Abhishek entered the lake to swim, but the water level was too deep. Their friends shouted for help but none of them knew how to swim.
After receiving information through emergency helpline 112, Hingna Police and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Fire Brigade team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
After several hours of search efforts, both bodies were recovered from the lake around 7 pm and sent to the Rural Hospital in Hingna for further procedures.
Hingna Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway.
