Two held for gambling and betting on IPL matches

Nagpur: The cops of Crime Branch have finally swung into action and are busy in prevention and arrest of all criminals and accused involved in various criminal and illegal activities. In one such successful operation conducted by the Nagpur city Police Crime Branch, they arrested two accused for gambling and running a cricket betting den in Tehsil area on April 13, 2014.

According to police sources, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepali Masirkar got some secret tip off that one accused is taking cricket betting amounts for the 20-20 IPL matches. The accused has been identified as Sanjay Ramprakash Gangwani aged 40 years and a resident of Near Nikalas Temple, Itwari Mandi Bazaar was taking the betting amounts on his mobile for the 20-20 IPL matches in the rented house in which he was residing.

Immediately DCP Deepali Masirkar reached the spot along with the cops of Crime Branch and two panchas (witnesses) and raided the premises between 10 to 12 pm.

During the raid the cops arrested Sanjay Ramprakash Gangwani aged 40 years and a resident of Near Nikalas Temple, Itwari Mandi Bazaar, House owner Sanjay Jain and Mukesh Nanakram Rohera aged 40 years and a resident of Street House No 353, Parvi Temple, Golibar Square. They were caught red handed while receiving bets for the match of Royal Challenge Bangalore versus Sunrise Hyderabad.

The police seized betting goods worth Rs 1,19,000/- (One lakh nineteen thousand).This included 16 mobile phones, one Laptop of Lenovo company, one Sony colour Television, one Sony recorder, tables and chairs, electrical extension box, Rs 40,000 in cash and three cheques.

The Tehsil police have registered a case under Sections 4 and 5 of Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and have arrested both the accused.
