Nagpur: In a disturbing case involving allegations of rape, blackmail, extortion and an attempted religious conversion, Sonegaon Police have arrested two persons while launching a manhunt for a third accused who remains absconding.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ayyaz Taj Madare (26), a resident of Brahmani Turning in Kalmeshwar, and Amin Shaikh (30) of Kalmeshwar. The third accused, identified as Hazrat Maulana, a resident of Tamia in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district, is yet to be traced.
According to police, the complainant is a 24-year-old married woman engaged in the property business. Her husband, an Air Force personnel, is posted outside Nagpur. Investigators said the prime accused, Ayyaz, was the woman’s former classmate and allegedly re-established contact with her in February 2025 on the pretext of assisting her in a land transaction.
Police said Ayyaz allegedly persuaded the woman to accompany him to a hotel on Wardha Road for discussions related to the property deal. During the meeting, he is accused of serving her a beverage laced with a sedative. After she allegedly lost consciousness, the accused purportedly raped her and secretly recorded the act on his mobile phone.
Investigators stated that the accused subsequently used the objectionable photographs and videos to threaten the woman and keep her under constant fear. Taking advantage of the material, he allegedly subjected her to repeated sexual exploitation over several months while also exerting pressure on her to embrace Islam.
The complaint further alleges that on May 31, Ayyaz took the woman to Kalmeshwar, where he introduced her to co-accused Amin Shaikh and Hazrat Maulana. The trio allegedly transported her to a secluded location and conducted certain rituals with the intention of converting her religion against her wishes.
Police have also accused Ayyaz of extorting Rs 3.09 lakh from the woman by threatening to circulate the videos and photographs if she refused to comply with his demands.
Unable to endure the alleged harassment and intimidation any longer, the woman reportedly confided in her husband after he returned to Nagpur. The couple subsequently approached Sonegaon Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, police registered offences of rape, criminal intimidation, extortion, attempted religious conversion and provisions of the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act against the accused.
The two arrested accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to five days of police custody for further interrogation. Police teams are continuing efforts to trace the absconding accused and are investigating all aspects of the case, including the alleged blackmail racket and conversion attempt.
The case has triggered concern due to the serious nature of the allegations involving sexual assault, coercion, extortion and alleged attempts to influence the victim’s religious identity through intimidation and manipulation.
