: A nation-wide strike called by truck operators to protest toll tax and TDS began from Thursday. Around 5000 truckers from Nagpur participated in the strike. According to the truck operators, the strike will continue until the Government meets their demands.

The striking truck operators said that when they are paying road tax then the recovery of toll tax is meaningless. Moreover, the returns of TDS are never paid back even after three years. Hench both, the toll tax and TDS should be stopped. In view of the impending strike by truck operators, the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari held parleys with Truckers’ Union in Delhi but the talks failed to break the deadlock.

The effects of truck operators’ strike could be seen on the first day itself. Stocks of goods brought at Kalamna market by smaller vehicles were lying untouched. The President of Nagpur Truckers Unity Association Kuku Marwah said that they will stick to their demands. If the Government failed to meet their demands then ultimately the people will suffer.
