London/ Nagpur:
As per new law introduced on Thursday in Britain, now the Sikhs will be able to use their customary turban, ‘Pagadi’, in their places of work, and no disciplinary action will be taken against them. The Sikhs in Britain had been demanding over several years the lifting of ban on their use of Pagadi at the working places. Their demand has now been fulfilled, informed media sources.

As per new rule, the Sikhs will be able to use their Pagadi at the places of work, and they are freed from restriction or any disciplinary action. Announcing the new rule, the Britain Employment Minister Priti Patel said, ‘This change indicates that the Goverment is standing by you, when you, be whatever you are, be whatever enterprise you are in, are working hard and wishing to achieve something in life.” She further said, “I am glad to be a part that government which has brought such a happy change, and which has made me employment minister and also ‘Indian Diaspora Champion’ of British Prime Minister. I am proud that there is home for such talented, ambitious and hard-working individuals in Britain.”

According to media reports, Sikhs since 1989 were only exempted from wearing helmet in case they were working in no risky or less risky units, but they had to wear helmets in risky industrial units or enterprises of dangerous sorts or factories, etc., failing which they were required to face disciplinary action, or even lose the job.

Now, the spokesperson of Sikh Council UK, Gurindersingh Josan said,”We are glad that the Parliament heard our grievance and made necessary changes in the Law. This change would protect our dignity and maintain our religious identity, and now we would be able work with our Pagadi on head.”
