Nagpur: Traffic police seized a Gujarat travel bus smuggling a huge stock of betel nuts worth lakhs of rupees. The samples of betel nuts were collected by a team of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and sent for analysis.
A team of traffic cops led by PI Raghavendra Kshirsagar, was on patrol duty after receiving information that goods were being transported illegally in a travel bus from Gujarat. Acting on the tip-off, the team of traffic cops stopped Adi Travels bus (GJ-03/BT-9601) at Wadi T-Point. Only nine passengers were seated in the bus but a huge stock of goods was loaded atop the bus. The cops took the bus to Wadi Police Station and checked it.
Cops found 20 bags of betel nut being smuggled in the travel bus. The betel nut was being transported to Surat in Gujarat. A team of FDA collected samples of betel nut and sent for further analysis. Further action will be taken after receiving report from the FDA. Cops have also requested the RTO Rural to cancel permit of the bus for breach of permit rules.
The other members of traffic cop team comprised ASI Devkumar Mishra and staff Milind Kolhe, Vilas Kokate and driver Deepak Wahane.
