Nagpur News: The brilliant birth of hi-tech mobile phones, which invaded India in a gigantic proportions since the past 15-odd years, has delivered a very handy tool of communication for human beings wherever they are – land, sea, space, and even on other planet – and the people across the world have been utilizing the mankind’s invention to the hilt. Nagpur or the Orange City or the Second Capital is, of course, no exception. However, the negative side-effects, too, are spreading as fast as the numbers of cell phones in enormous ways.

“Every action has reaction.” The cut-throat competition among the various mobile phone manufacturing companies to attract customers is leaving behind a trail deadly side-effects. The mobile companies trying to score over their rival companies are crushing them under their towers in the era of cut-throat competition. The towers are cropping up just like the umbrellas of honey bees to serve the cell phone holders which have turned in lakhs and lakhs.

However, towers have been posing serious health hazards to citizens unlike the honey bees who are of immense use to mankind in various means. The lethal waves triggered by the towers have been taking heavy toll of human beings, and, even animals and birds, too. The Government has laid rules and regulations for erecting towers but mobile phone companies are tearing the rules and regulations apart by way of erecting towers according to their whims and fancies.

In the recent years, the Nagpur city is witnessing the mushrooming of towers of companies like BSNL, Idea, Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance, Tata, Uninor, and other companies. The companies pay hefty rent to the house owners or flat scheme developers. The new crop and old house owners as well, and developers, without giving any thoughts to future ill-effects that would grip the citizens, give permissions to companies who dangle more and more rents than their rivals in order to grab the ideal spots for their towers.

The towers have become a towering source of extra income for some NMC bosses as they deliberately neglect illegal towers erected by some companies. The house-owners or developers are also being spared by NMC authorities in the supposed nexus between the tower companies, NMC bosses and the house-owners or developers. And the result is in open: A network of illegal towers across the city.

The radio waves, although travel along the gounds in parallel ways but they pierce the concrete walls of residential buildings. The radio waves, even, penetrate the human bodies and come out, too. Thus making the human beings the victims of several ill-effects like cancer, headaches, eye diseases, mental stress, heart disorders, impotency etc. Even the non-mobile phone users were found suffering from the diseases because of the radio waves. The massive drilling done to erect the gigantic towers is creating another problem. The building gets weaker and weaker posing another danger of collapse. The generators to maintain the towers and buildings cool have been becoming a source pollution to environment.

The most hazardous effect of radio waves of the towers could be seen over birds. The Orange City citizens can now witness falling numbers of birds, who otherwise were cherishing the company of mankind, even the chirping of birds, was a play for kids. Many species of birds are on the path of extinction. And the main reason is the cropping of the towers legal or illegal. The future for mankind, flora and fauna deems dark if the control over haphazard growth of towers is not taken care of. The following rules or regulations or guidelines must be followed by the NMC bosses and the mobile service provider companies in letter and spirit.

• No tower erection in the premises of educational institutions or hospitals.

• Installation of towers in residential areas after permissions of all concerned.

• For any damage or ill-effects the compensations would have to be paid by the mobile companies.

• No erection of towers on narrow roads or streets.

• Boards with warnings of hazards must be put up at all possible sites.

• The antennas of towers must be three meters above the ground or terrace.

The responsibility in connection with erecting towers lies with all the citizens, NMC authorities and mobile companies to make the future environment safe for mankind, and, animals and birds, too.
