Nagpur: A red-faced Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal on Tuesday took ‘class’ of all Assistant Commissioners and gave them a dressing down over lacklustre implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in city. “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is an ambitious mission of Central Government. Nagpur City has lagged behind in this mission. It clearly shows the concerned officials are not doing their job in proper manner. Take the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seriously or be ready to face disciplinary action,” the top NMC boss warned the erring Assistant Commissioners.
The meeting was held at Raje Raghuji Nagar Bhavan (Town Hall) soon after the General Body Meeting of NMC was over. The only agenda of the meeting was ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and NMC’s duty.’ In the first stage of the Abhiyan, action was to initiate against those defecating in open. For this job, zone-wise ‘Good Morning Squads’ were formed under the leadership of Assistant Commissioners. The Squads took action in several areas. The Municipal Commissioner even ordered registration of offence against those found defecating in open. Subsequently, a few offences were registered. However, all these steps were for the namesake and not worthy of notice. Noted the Municipal Commissioner with anger writ large on his face.
In the second stage, the campaign for segregation of wet and dry waste at source was launched from June 5, 2017. Several awareness programmes were organised. Distribution of green dustbin for wet waste and blue dustbin for dry waste was undertaken. But it was seen that the officials were found wanting in this campaign, Mudgal said. “If this disturbing trend continues, it would not come as surprise that the entire exercise going futile. Therefore take the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seriously or be ready to face disciplinary action,” the top NMC boss warned the erring Assistant Commissioners.
