Nagpur News: Unidentified thieves barged into a house in Sri Nagar under Hudkeshwar and took away the cash and jewellery amounting to the tune of Rs 1.75 lakhs in wee hours of Friday. The family was fast asleep when the thieves broke open the almirah and decamped with the valuables and cash.

The family head Damodarrao Salgantiwar is an ex-employee of Agriculture department while his wife has recently retired from Medical college. His son Ujjwal is pursuing polytechnic.

Both Damodarrao and Ujjwal were fast asleep in separate rooms on the fateful night. His wife was sleeping in the hall. The thieves reportedly stormed into the house in the wee hours of Friday. They locked the bedroom in which Ujjwal was sleeping and broke open the steel almirah using a rod and swept away with the gold ornaments weighing 50 gms and the cash amount of Rs 25,000.

The family came to know about the incident at 4.30 am when Ujjwal woke up for his studies and found that his room was locked. He later raised alarm after which his father also woke up. They could not even hear the sound of almirah being broken. This led the police to speculate that culprits might have sprayed toxic substance making the members unconscious, before committing the crime.
