Nagpur: A shocking incident in Nagpur has once again exposed the grave danger posed by stray cattle roaming freely on the streets. A 64-year-old senior citizen woman has been battling for her life for the past one month after being brutally attacked by a stray bull while sweeping outside her house.
The victim, Vandana Devikar (64), was sweeping the area in front of her residence on January 27 at around 7.30 am when a stray bull suddenly charged at her. With very little movement in the lane at that early hour, the attack was so violent that she suffered devastating injuries.

According to family members, the bull repeatedly tossed and trampled her, leaving her critically injured. Several bones in her body were fractured, her ribs were broken, and she sustained severe head injuries, including significant brain trauma. She fought for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for three weeks and underwent a complex brain surgery. Despite extensive treatment, she has not regained consciousness.
For the past one month, Vandana Devikar has not opened her eyes or spoken a single word. After spending lakhs of rupees on medical treatment, the family brought her home as her internal brain injuries have not healed. She remains bedridden in an unconscious state, unable to move or respond. Artificial oxygen support and other essential medical equipment have been arranged at home to keep her alive.
The incident has sparked anger and concern among residents, as it underlines how dangerous stray animals on city roads can be for ordinary citizens.
What has further upset the family is the alleged apathy of the authorities. Even after a month has passed since the attack, no official from the municipal corporation, administration, or local representative has reportedly visited the family to inquire about her condition. Police completed procedural formalities, but beyond that, the family claims there has been no meaningful action.
Adding to their fear, relatives allege that the same stray bull responsible for the attack continues to roam freely in the same locality, posing an ongoing threat to residents.
The tragic case has raised serious questions about civic accountability and the urgent need to address the menace of stray cattle before more innocent lives are put at risk.
