Nagpur: Indicating significant political developments in the state, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has adequate numerical strength to secure four seats in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra.
Speaking to reporters, Bawankule said the party’s core committee has already met to deliberate on potential candidates, and the shortlisted names will be forwarded to the central core committee for final approval. “We have the required numbers to win four Rajya Sabha seats,” he said confidently. He added that while efforts are always made to ensure unopposed elections, a view shared by the Chief Minister, the current political scenario remains competitive, and a contest cannot be ruled out if consensus is not achieved.
E-Bond facility to simplify transactions
On the administrative front, Bawankule announced a major digital initiative by the Revenue Department with the launch of an e-bond facility. The move will allow citizens to purchase bonds online and pay stamp duty from home, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices.
He said the initiative marks a significant step towards digital transformation in the department, bringing greater transparency and speed to the document registration process. The reform is expected to provide substantial relief to citizens by simplifying revenue-related transactions.
‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Revenue Campaign’ planned
The minister also informed that preparations are underway to roll out the ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Revenue Campaign’ across Maharashtra. Special camps will be organised at the mandal level on March 7 and 14, and for two days each in April and May.
During these camps, key revenue services, including land fragmentation issues (tukdebandi), live 7/12 extracts (satbara), non-agricultural (NA) conversion processes, and other departmental services, will be provided under one roof. District Guardian Ministers, MLAs, MPs and local representatives are expected to attend the camps. “I will personally visit these camps as well,” Bawankule stated.
Discussion on Maratha reservation demands
Responding to queries regarding the ongoing agitation over Maratha reservation led by Manoj Jarange Patil, Bawankule said the demands raised will be discussed in detail and an appropriate solution will be found through dialogue.
With political equations shifting ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections and the Revenue Department pushing digital reforms, Bawankule’s statements are being viewed as significant in shaping both the administrative and political landscape of Maharashtra.
