NAGPUR: The absence of 40 BJP corporators from a key Nagpur Municipal Corporation programme attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has triggered a political controversy within the ruling camp.
Ruling party leader Balya (Narendra) Borkar has lodged a complaint with Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani, seeking strict action against the corporators who remained absent from the programme.
The event, held on August 10, was jointly organised by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur, Zilla Parishad and the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre to provide free assistive devices to persons with disabilities. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was present at the programme.

The camp aimed to support persons with disabilities by providing Jaipur Foot, artificial limbs and other assistive equipment. Beneficiaries were assessed and their measurements taken so that the required devices could be provided to them.
With the Chief Minister attending the event, the presence of ruling-party corporators was expected. However, 40 BJP corporators were reportedly absent, prompting questions over party discipline within the civic body.
Borkar Demands Funds Be Withheld
Taking a tough stand, Borkar has demanded that municipal funds allocated to the absent corporators be withheld.
The demand has added a new dimension to the controversy, as it comes from the ruling party’s own leadership against its members.
The matter has now been placed before Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani. The key question is whether the absent corporators will face any formal action, including show-cause notices, and whether Borkar’s demand to withhold their funds will be accepted.
The episode has put the spotlight on internal discipline within the BJP’s Nagpur civic unit, with the absence of 40 corporators from a programme attended by the Chief Minister turning into a political flashpoint.
