Short Film Dhaaga receives International Recognition

With an unforeseen plot of twists and turns based on Brother-sister love and honour killing, Marathi Short film-Dhaaga directed by budding filmmaker Raj R. Gupta has bagged two major awards at Expressions Short film Festival held in Nagpur. The movie was also screened at the renowned Cannes film festival 2017.

The film has won Best Actor (Sahil Kene) and Best Supporting Actress (Ashwini Ladekar) awards. As a feather in the cap, the movie also managed to secure second runner up position in Short Takes 7, short film contest in Mumbai.

The short film has also received International recognition by its screening in Indisches film festival Stuttgart Germany, 2017.

It also got screened in Melbourne, Australia during RMIT festival 2017 and was critically appraised by film fraternity.

It also received “special festival mention” at “5th Delhi international short film festival”. Dhaaga has already won accolades by critics as well as audience in MAMI, Mumbai. Film festival. It was one of the top ten Shortlisted films at MAMI (Mumbai Film Festival-16) in Large short film category, contesting with over 350 films. Dhaaga has got more then 10 official selections in international film festivals.

Set in a small beautiful village of Maharashtra, India, this film tells the story of the bond shared by a young boy Shankar and his teenage sister Uma. Dhaaga starts as a slice of life story focusing on the routines of children and equations in a typical Indian family. As the film progresses, it delves into the psyche of common people and what are their perception of Indian traditions. The film revolves around family, kids, traditions and mirth and laughter but at the same time it also focuses on the dark side, which is equally prevalent in society.
