Yavatmal/Nagpur: A busy intersection in Yavatmal – Sharda Square – and nearby area has become a hub of gamblers and anti-social elements. The notorious place has now become out of bounds for law abiding citizens as the anti-socials create nuisance of all sorts.

Interestingly, a temple is also situated right in the middle of Sharda Square. With a den of gamblers and their high-pitched nuisance, the religious sentiments of devotees visiting the temple are getting hurt. ‘Arti’ and puja is performed in mornings and evenings daily at this temple. But the rush of anti-social elements deter devotees from performing the religious rituals. According to sources, notorious goons namely Bablu Thakur, Lakhan Badod, Sonu Badod, Gagan Thakur and their henchmen have spread their network at Sharda Square.

Sharda Square is not the only hub of anti-socials. Some other criminals such as Ganesh Gulhari and Madhu Gavde are running the gambling dens at Apsara Square and Railway Station respectively. Ironically, all these nefarious activities are being carried out under the very nose of police. Without the connivance of higher-ups in police the goons would not dare to operate gambling dens and other illegal activities, sources said.

Yavatmal is constituency of former Home Minister Manikrao Thakre and current Revenue Minister Sanjay Rathore.
