Politicians are often seen in the awe of Bollywood celebrities and spare no chance to spend some selfie moments with them. But it went haywire for Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh to get a selfie with Bollywood hottie Kareena Kapoor.

Singh faced severe criticism from the main Opposition Congress for taking a selfie with Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor during a child rights programme in Raipur on Friday.

The Congress lashed out at the CM for his insensitivity towards the growing farmer suicide cases in the state and engaging in selfie moments with the actor instead.

“More than a dozen farmers, distressed with the drought situation (in the current Kharif crop season), have committed suicide in the state. Instead of expressing concern for them, CM was busy in taking selfie with a film star,” state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel said.

The Congress leader also questioned the chief minister’s motives behind the selfie act and asked what the CM wanted to prove by clicking a selfie with Kareena.

The chief minister earned the wrath of the opposition after he was caught on camera clicking a selfie with the actor while sitting on stage.

Meanwhile, a senior administrative official defended the CM and said that he usually clicked pictures with children and guests during his programmes and thus he did the same during the child rights event as well.

Kareena, who is the UNICEF India celebrity advocate, was a special guest in a programme based on child rights at the state capital jointly organised by UNICEF and state’s School Education and Women and Child Development Departments. As many as 31 meritorious girl students and 5 teachers from 36 schools were felicitated with “Chhattisgarh Ratna” in the programme.
