RTMNU holds talk on Baseshwar’s role on women’s rights

Nagpur: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) organized Basweshwar Lecture Series at University Hall on Monday, 13, 07, 2015, on the rights of women.

Vice chancellor of RTMNU Dr Siddarth Vnayak Kane presided over the function while the Registrar of RTMNU Puran Meshram and other dignitaries were prominently present on the occasion.

Expressing her views on the subject, former Head of Dept of Sanskrit, RTMNU, Dr Rupatai Kulkarani, elaborately dwelt on the Dalits and their rights and Baseshwar’s contribution to them. She recited certain shlokhas which were written by Baseshwar in Sanskrit. She further said that Baseshwar was against religious rigidity among people of his time. She further informed that Baseshwar had removed from the society the religious discrimination and underestimation of women, as these two things were compartmentalizing men and women into two social strata.

In his presidential address, VC Kane said, “We have a vast history that signifies Baseshwar’s contribution, and we need more such individuals to reform our present society.” He informed the audience how Baseshwar had stressed the equality of men and women. He called on the people to implement his ideologies in society.
