Relatives of dead kin allege negligent death,resort to damaging Gadge Hospital at Dharampeth

In a violent act, the relatives in large number resorted to damaging property of a hospital over the alleged negligent death of their kin.

According to reports, the patient Swapnil Shambharkar (21), resident of Jaitala, was suffering shoulder pain since past few months. He was not getting relief despite various treatments. Finally, Swapnil was admitted to the Dr Gadge Hospital of Orthopaedic and Surgery near Coffee House Square, Dharampeth, Nagpur on August 20. An operation of Swapnil was performed as per the advice of Dr Vivek Gadge. However, Swapnil’s shoulder pain did not subside and his condition started deteriorating. The relatives then decided to shift Swapnil to Dr Sengupta’s Hospital in Ravi Nagar. However, when Swapnil was brought to the Dr Sengupta’s Hospital, doctor there declared Swapnil brought dead.

The relatives and others, who were in large number, alleged Swapnil died of wrong injection or overdose of medicine at the Dr Gadge Hospital. They then reached Dr Gadge Hospital and resorted to damaging everything they could touch.

Meanwhile, Sitabuldi police, led by PSI Besale, reached the spot and calmed down the situation. Swapnil’s body was sent for post-mortem. When Nagpur Today contacted PSI Besale for further information over the incident, he said, the investigation is in the preliminary stage. No FIR has been registered and no arrest has been done in this connection.
