Nagpur: A rare white owl that had been trapped inside a locked room for nearly four days was successfully rescued and released back into the wild in Nagpur’s Dighori area, thanks to the timely intervention of a local resident and wildlife rescuers.
According to information received, Prashant Lilahare, a resident of Dighori, was carrying out work at a house when he repeatedly heard unusual sounds coming from a nearby room. Curious about the source of the noise, he opened the door and was surprised to find a large white owl trapped inside.
The bird appeared frightened, exhausted and in a weakened condition, apparently due to being confined without access to food or water for several days. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Lilahare immediately contacted wildlife rescuer and Sarpamitra Shubham Parale. Upon receiving the information, Parale rushed to the spot and assessed the condition of the bird.
During the inspection, it was discovered that the owl had been trapped inside the room for the past four days. Owing to the prolonged confinement, the bird had become extremely weak and vulnerable.
A carefully planned rescue operation was then carried out, during which the owl was safely captured without causing it any harm. After ensuring that the bird was fit to be released, the rescuer transported it to the Matka Jhari forest area and released it into its natural habitat.
Wildlife enthusiasts praised the swift action taken by the resident and rescuers, noting that timely information and prompt response played a crucial role in saving the life of the rare bird.
The incident highlights the importance of public awareness and cooperation in protecting wildlife, particularly when wild animals and birds accidentally find themselves trapped in human settlements.
