Nagpur: Justice S B Shukre granted anticipatory bail to Ranjit Halke Safelkar (President of Shriram Sena Vidarbha Province) and Vice-President of Kamptee Municipal Council under Sections 255 420 468 471 of IPC read with 3, 25 Arms Act registered by Police Station Kamptee.
There was an allegation of Kamptee Police that some informant gave information that Ranjit has fake licence to carry pistol and therefore police detained to Ranjit and seized his pistol and licence.
The Kamptee Police sent the licence for verification to the Office of District Collector Gorakhpur. The Office of District Collector Gorakhpur disowned the licence. They also informed the Kamptee Police that the above-mentioned licence was not issued by them. Therefore the police registered an offence under Sections 255 420 468 471 of IPC read with 3, 25 Arms Act.
Counsel for the accused Advocate Prakash Jaiswal argued that the accused had applied to Gorakhpur authorities to give details of their licence under RTI but the Collector of Gorakhpur has not supplied the information so he preferred to Appeal to District Collector Lucknow against it but they too did not supply the record of his licence.
The letter issued by Gorakhpur authorities is neither supplying record to even the police so there might be no record for it. He had been depositing his pistol and licence with Kamptee Police Station from time to time.
It is also a fact that nobody has filed any case that the said firearm or licence was misused by him. He also gave his statement from time to time to police and therefore he never misused it. The Honourable Court granted anticipatory bail to the accused with conditions to attend police station from August 16 to August 23, 2016. The police may collect evidence and if it comes then come for cancellation.
Advocate Prakash Jaiswal, Advocate Naved Rizvy and Advocate Rohini Khapekar appeared for the accused while Advocate Palshikar appeared for the state.
Wave of happiness spreads among followers and supporters
As soon as the Honourable Court granted the anticipatory bail to Ranjit Halke Safelkar, a wave of jubilations spread among all the office-bearers of President of Shriram Sena Vidarbha Province, all the followers and supporters of Ranjit Safelkar. Thousands of followers and supporters celebrated his release on bail.
However, those who were jealous of his quick ascension to power and wanted him removed from the way, are now tensed.
Ripples of tension could also be felt in other circles in Kamptee Municipal Council and Nagpur District. This is because the election of Kamptee Municipal Council is slated to be held in December 2016 while the election of the Zilha Parishad is slated to be held after the Municipal Corporation elections next year.
Some people present in the court said that Ranjit Safelkar is humbled when he has been asked by the Court to report everyday to the Kamptee Police Station.
