Nagpur: After a prolonged wait for rain and growing concerns over drought-like conditions in parts of Vidarbha, farmers may finally get some relief, with the Nagpur Meteorological Centre forecasting an increase in rainfall activity across the region from September 23.
According to the weather forecast, a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen rainfall activity over Vidarbha. Rain is likely to begin from the evening of September 23, followed by heavy showers in several parts of the region over the next three days.

The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Yavatmal on September 24 and 25. An orange alert has been issued for these districts, indicating the possibility of intense rainfall during the period.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds likely
The weather system could also trigger heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at some places.
The weather department has therefore advised residents to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense thunderstorm activity. Farmers have also been urged to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops and agricultural equipment.
Crucial spell for farmers
The forecast comes at an important time for farmers across Vidarbha, where inadequate rainfall in some areas has put crops under stress and raised concerns over the prevailing dry conditions.
The expected rainfall over the next three days could prove significant for agricultural areas that have been awaiting substantial showers.
