Nagpur: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing ‘Operation Thunder’, launched to curb housebreakings and illegal narcotics activities across the city, the Nagpur Police Crime Branch has arrested a history-sheeter and recovered a substantial cache of contraband, deadly weapons and stolen valuables. The arrest has also led to the detection of four house burglary cases that had remained unsolved for weeks.
The action was carried out by the Crime Branch’s Unit-5 team during a special patrolling operation in the Bhandewadi area. Acting on a tip-off about a suspicious individual moving around with illegal items, police intercepted a youth who was waiting on a two-wheeler near the Nageshwar Nagar Ground.
During questioning and a subsequent search, officers discovered several incriminating items in his possession. He was immediately taken into custody and subjected to detailed interrogation.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Faiyaz Ejaz Ansari (24), a resident of the Bhandewadi area. Police recovered nearly one kilogram of ganja, a sharp-edged koyta (machete), stolen gold and silver ornaments, an Apple mobile phone and other valuables believed to be linked to multiple property crimes.
During interrogation, Ansari allegedly confessed to carrying out a series of housebreakings along with his associates in different parts of the city. Investigators subsequently established his involvement in at least four burglary cases registered under Wathoda, Pardi and Bhandewadi police station limits.
The total value of the seized property has been estimated at approximately Rs 4.48 lakh. The recovered items include gold and silver jewellery, an Apple smartphone, a moped, narcotic substances and dangerous weapons.
Police officials said the investigation has revealed the involvement of several accomplices who remain absconding. Two suspects have been linked to the narcotics racket, while two others are wanted in connection with the burglary cases. Multiple police teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the remaining accused, and raids are being conducted at various locations.
Officials described the operation as a significant success, as it not only resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs and weapons but also helped solve multiple pending property crime cases. The recovery of stolen valuables is expected to provide relief to victims who had suffered losses in the burglaries.
Senior police officers stated that the success of Operation Thunder reflects the Crime Branch’s intensified campaign against organised crime, narcotics trafficking and repeat offenders. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused and his associates were involved in additional crimes across the city.
The arrest is being viewed as a major achievement in Nagpur Police’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
