The other accused have been identified A R Bhiwgade, Sub-Registrar, Kamptee; Iqbal Rasheed Diwan, a resident of New Shukrawari, Mahal; and Leeladhar Gyaneshwar Mendhekar, a resident of Mhalgi Nagar.

A resident of village Pandhurna, Tehsil Kamptee, Sandeep Deogade, who owns six acre land, had given power of attorney for two acres to Mohammad Rafique who resides at Wardhaman Nagar. The cost of the land was not mentioned in the power of attorney. Mohammad Rafiq, in connivance with Iqbal Rasheed Diwan and Leeladhar Mendhekar tampered with the power of attorney and changed the designated land with an adjacent piece of two acre land. On the basis of the forged documents, Mohammad Rafiq then executed the sale deed. Despite being fully aware that the papers were forged, Sub-Registrar Bhiwgade registered the sale deed for self gains.

Mohammad Rafiq then misled land owner Deogade and transferred Rs 25 lakh to his account and grabbed his land worth Rs 1.24 crore. Following Deogade’s complaint, Wathoda Police on May 22 had registered a case under Sections 406, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons. EOW investigated the case and arrested accused Mohammad Rafiq and booked Iqbal Rasheed Diwan, Mendhekar and Sub-Registrar Bhiwgade.

The arrest was made by API Sachin Tadakhe and his team under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW ) Archit Chandak.
