Nagpur: The Orange City Water (OCW) which is working to convert many command areas into uninterrupted and fully pressurised under NMC’s ambitious 24X7 water supply project, with onset of Monsoon started working on war footing on restoration of trenches, pits created for laying pipelines giving special emphasis on ‘Safety of Nagpurians First’ theme.
It must be mentioned here OCW which believes in ‘Safety of Nagpurians First , especially vehicular and pedestrian traffic on top of its priorities list’ has formed a Special Squad of 75 members under the supervision of OCW works and Safety Departments which will only concentrate on the restoration work in Monsoon season.

During Monsoon season, for smooth vehicular movements as well to reduce the inconvenience to people, OCW has prepared an action plan and accordingly deployed manpower with 4 special vehicles only for concreting work which is commonly known as restoration work.

In case of new HSC (House Service Connection) work carried out, OCW has planned to took special efforts and have started temporarily filling trenches and small pits with ‘stone dust’ and ‘other hard material like Murrom’. After ‘stone dust’ and ‘murrom’ used for temporary restoration settles down in pit or trenches for almost 45-days period, the pits and trenches will be restored completely with ‘8 inch’ quality concreting materials.

Further a ‘Special Team’ comprising of members from OCW Works, Safety, Security departments under the guidance and supervision of OCW Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Sanjoy Roy will keep a close watch on restoration as well as safety activities being implemented on the field sites across city. Regular visits on sites to implement adequate safety measure are one of the features of team especially during monsoon.
It may be mentioned here till now OCW has replaced almost 452 km pipeline especially in all parts of Nagpur out of which over 200 km pipeline has been laid by using innovative Horizontal Direction Drilling Machine (HDD), called as an advanced, “Trenchless Technology”.
OCW has used “Trenchless Technology” in many command areas. In this, the whole road is not required to be dug but only two points are excavated after every 100 meter and pipe is laid through them. This technology needs little restoration. OCW is a ‘numero uno’ public utility company in city which has started utilizing such technology, as it has minimized traffic disruptions and chances of disturbing existing utilities.

But it is also fact that OCW is creating trenches in lanes (Not on main roads but on internal roads ) and pits for rehabilitation work (24X7 project) and operation and maintenance work of existing water supply system, however during such work unlike other public utility agencies OCW is taking all necessary safety precautions like installation of OCW barricades, safety caution tapes, display boards, sign boards clearly mentioning that work is carried out jointly by NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) for 24X7 project or for operation and maintenance work. On such trenches and pits OCW will take utmost care during monsoon

OCW always believes in quality work and there will be no compromise in the quality of restoration work. Till date OCW has completed restoration of almost 284 km in rehabilitation project while rest has been covered under ‘Trenchless Technology’ method which requires little restoration. Along with actual rehabilitation work of the uninterrupted (24×7) water supply project, NMC-OCW is also replacing very old network, rusted pipelines under ‘Emergency Works.’ Under emergency works OCW replaced almost 25 km pipeline and here also restoration work is in final stages.

But it is also fact that OCW is also creating trenches in lanes (Not on main roads ) and pits for rehabilitation work (24X7 project) and operation and maintenance work of existing water supply system, however during such work unlike other public utility agencies OCW is taking all necessary safety precautions like installation of OCW barricades, safety tapes, display boards clearly mentioning that work is carried out jointly by NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) for 24X7 project or for operation and maintenance work.
