Nun rape case: Jail till death for convict

Ranaghat: A Kolkata court has given a life term (jail till death) to a Bangladeshi man, who was yesterday convicted of raping a 72-year-old nun in Ranaghat, West Bengal.

The convict, Nazrul Islam and five others were also held guilty of robbery in the case. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Kumkum Sinha.

On March 14, 2015, a 72-year old nun at the Convent of Jesus and Mary at Ranaghat in the Nadia district was allegedly gang-raped. The men also decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 6 lakh.

Noting that the charge of gang-rape was not established, the judge said only Nazrul Islam was found guilty of rape.

All the six were also found guilty of criminal conspiracy for committing dacoity at the convent in Ranaghat.
