A shocking  development has come to fore wherein it is revealed that the award winning State teachers have not been given increase in salaries since the past seven years. However, they have been offered Tablet PCs worth Rs 8,800 as part of e-governance. “The Maharashtra Government announces the names of award winning teachers and felicitates them. But never keeps the promises in regard to salary increase of the teachers triggering an outrage among them,” lamented some award winning teachers with boiling anger writ large on their faces.

The State Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, while addressing the award distribution function on September 5, the Teachers’ Day, had asserted, “The award winning teachers would certainly help in achieving qualitative development of students through the Information Technology. The State Government has decided to distribute Tablet PCs to award winning teachers free of cost in order to spread Information Technology education among the students.” Similarly, the Chief Minister had directed the concerned authorities to make computers, laptops or similar tools available to award winning teachers to enhance their scientific approach and use of state-of-the-art technology in spreading the qualitative development among students. At the same breath, the Chief Minister had directed to remove the word “Sevak” from “Shikshansevak” and increase the salaries of the teachers. However, every word of the Chief Minister was implemented but the increase in salaries.

The award winning teachers, from time to time, complained to the Chief Minister of no increase in their salaries. However, most shockingly, the Chief Minister had conveyed to the teachers of signing and sealing the salary increase file. In this situation, the file is gathering the dust on the tables of School Education Minister, the teachers claimed.

The award winning teachers have also blamed the teacher-MLC Nago Ganar for failure to provide justice to them. The teachers winning the award in the year 2013 have been presented Tablet PCs but 2012 award winning teachers have neither been presented Tablet PCs nor salary increase.
