Nagpur: Women and children below 12 years of age will be able to travel free of cost on Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Aapli Bus services on August 28 as the civic body’s Transport Department introduces a special initiative to mark Raksha Bandhan.

The free-ride facility will remain available throughout the day, allowing women and young children to commute without paying fares while travelling to meet relatives and loved ones during the festival.

The initiative is intended to make festive travel more convenient for families and encourage greater use of public transport during Raksha Bandhan, when movement across the city increases considerably.

The programme has been planned under the guidance of Transport Committee Chairperson Mangala Khekare and other committee members, in coordination with the NMC Transport Department and the Chalo team.

According to officials, the special facility is part of the Transport Department’s efforts to make the city’s public transport system more accessible, convenient and passenger-friendly.

The initiative is also expected to provide some relief to families travelling together during the festival while encouraging citizens to opt for Aapli Bus services instead of private vehicles.
