NMC to provide houses to slum-dwellers

Nagpur: As per the directions of Maharashtra Government, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will provide houses to every person living in notified slums. This was directed by Harish Dikondwar, Chairman of Weaker Section Welfare Committee of civic body in a meeting of held recently.

Dikondwar said that city has total 295 notified slums and State Government has launched several schemes for the welfare of persons living in these slums. The funds allotted by the government did not spend by the civic body.
However, the committee has decided to spend funds for construction of their houses. Slum Department should prepare a proposal to spend funds for construction of houses, he added. Presently, local body is constructing roads, multi-purpose halls, and houses in the slum areas.

Due to lack of planning by the Slum Department, the funds released by the State Government did not utilise. Therefore, Mayor has constituted this committee to monitor the work undertaken in the slum areas and also to construct houses for them.

Members of the committee- Gopichand Kumre , Niranjana Patil, Vandana Bhagat, Amar Bagade, Shakuntala Parve, Rajendra Sonkusare, Kanta Rarokar, Neha Nikose, Parasram Manvatkar,Vaishali Narnawre, and R G Rahate, Executive Engineer (Slum) were present.
