Nagpur: A strong response from property owners rushing to beat the July 31 rebate deadline has enabled the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to cross the Rs 100-crore mark in property tax collections within the first four months of the 2026-27 financial year.
According to provisional figures up to July 30, the civic body collected Rs 100.29 crore from 2,37,113 properties, achieving nearly 13.4 per cent of its annual property tax target of Rs 749.82 crore.

Of the total collections, Rs 72.75 crore came from current-year tax payments, while Rs 27.54 crore was recovered from outstanding arrears. The NMC has set an ambitious target of recovering Rs 526.85 crore in pending dues during the current financial year.
Officials attributed the impressive early collections largely to the Corporation’s incentive-based rebate scheme. Property owners who paid their taxes online before the July 31 deadline received a 15 per cent discount, while those making payments at civic facilitation centres were offered a 10 per cent rebate. Taxpayers can still avail a 5 per cent rebate on payments made between August 1 and December 31. Additional concessions continue for environmentally friendly properties equipped with rooftop solar panels or rainwater harvesting systems.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram said the civic administration remains focused on maximising collections from both current demand and long-pending arrears. “There are more than seven lakh properties within the municipal limits, and the department is committed to clearing the backlog while ensuring timely recovery of current property tax,” he said.
Among the city’s ten administrative zones, Laxmi Nagar emerged as the highest revenue contributor with Rs 15.94 crore, followed by Mangalwari (Rs 14.19 crore), Hanuman Nagar (Rs 12.67 crore) and Nehru Nagar (Rs 12.65 crore).
At the other end of the spectrum, Satranjipura and Gandhibag recorded the lowest collections at Rs 3.36 crore and Rs 4.24 crore, respectively.
Despite having the city’s largest property base of nearly 1.20 lakh properties and the highest tax demand of Rs 146.88 crore, Ashi Nagar generated only Rs 9.17 crore, indicating substantial untapped revenue potential and the need for intensified recovery efforts.
The Property Tax Department expects the collection figure to rise further after reconciliation of all payments received on the final day of the rebate period.
With the discount window now over, the NMC is preparing to intensify its recovery drive. Officials said demand notices and property attachment proceedings will be initiated against chronic defaulters, while advanced digital tools will be deployed to identify unassessed and under-assessed properties, widening the tax base and strengthening the civic body’s revenue stream.
